Transition to Advanced Formulation Blowing Agents in Foam Manufacturing and Use

3.0

The American Carbon Registry (ACR), a nonprofit enterprise of Winrock International, has announced an open public comment period for version 3.0 of its approved Methodology for the Quantification, Monitoring, Reporting and Verification of Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reductions from the Transition to Advanced Formulation Blowing Agents in Foam Manufacturing and Use.

In the methodology, greenhouse emission reductions are quantified from the use of low GWP blowing agent in the production and use of foam. This update adds the emissions at end of life (EOL) of the foam and updates emissions rates consistent with the EPA GHG Inventory 1990-2019. A detailed list of methodology updates can be found below in the “Summary of Proposed Modifications for FBA v3.0”.

The methodology update was developed by ACR over the last year based on the most recent data available for foam blowing agents and end uses from the EPA. The methodology is being updated through ACR’s public consultation and scientific peer review processes.
