Carbon Capture and Storage

The American Carbon Registry (ACR), a non-profit enterprise of Winrock International, is expanding its Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Methodology for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) ProjectsThe methodology was originally published in 2015 for CCS projects with Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR).

The expanded Version 2.0 of the ACR CCS methodology will include removals from CO2 sources such as Direct Air Capture (DAC) and CO2 sequestration within depleted reservoirs and saline formations, thus enabling the generation of carbon emission reductions and removals credits for a broader range of project types and supporting the continued development of this vital suite of CCS technologies. Future updates to the methodology will include CO2 utilization, mineralization, and Bio Energy with CCS (BECCS).

ACR plans to release the expanded CCS methodology version 2.0 for public consultation in the first quarter of 2022. For additional information about the methodology, please contact .
